In December 2013 I began Independent Kitchen to document my escapades in the kitchen. My motivation for starting the blog was to share my love of all things food with my friends and family. Almost 100 posts later, my recipes have been featured on Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Strength and Stretches and Demuth’s Cookery School to name a few.
Independent Kitchen’s main focus has always been on well sourced ingredients from local independent retailers. I have created a collection of recipes as well as mapping independent businesses I have discovered through visiting and research. However, Independent Kitchen is branching out to emphasize independent retailers and restaurants more, predominantly focusing on the South West of England as this is where I grew up and currently live. Expect to find restaurant reviews, supplier interviews and updated mapping of the independent businesses pages.
I hope Independent Kitchen will become a resource for you to find local independent food businesses and promote a lifestyle away from the supermarkets and food chains that dominate our streets. Enjoy cooking with ingredients shipped from nearby. Not only will you support your local farmers and businesses, but your carbon footprint will reduce, you will start eating with the seasons and you may find food just tastes better.
